Council to hear about civil discourse Local residents often express concern about main- taining a positive public dis- course in Sisters. To that end, on Thursday, October 8, the Sisters City Council is slated to hear about the Speak Your Peace (SYP) initiative dur- ing the first half-hour of their evening workshop. The session begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall. SYP has helped residents and cities build trust and engage more constructively and effectively. The Council will hear from local and area residents who are familiar with SYP and a facilitator who has helped customize the initiative to suit the needs of communities throughout the country. These individuals have volunteered their time to present this information about SYP to the Council. Members of the public are welcome to attend. 7 Boys soccer blanks Cottage Grove By Rongi Yost Correspondent The boys soccer team has steamrolled over their league opponents so far this season, and they did it again with a 3-0 victory over Cottage Grove (CG) on Tuesday, September 29. The Outlaws limited the Lions to very few looks at the goal. Sisters got on the score- board in the 10th minute of play off a goal by Malachy Sundstrom, who was assisted by Jadon Bachtold. At the half, Sisters held a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes into the sec- ond half, Colton Mannhalter dribbled past the defense, which had pushed the line up to draw the Outlaws offsides. “It was a smart play, because the defense was out of position, and we had players rushing to get back on-sides,” said Coach Rob Jensen. With 10 minutes left in the game, Mannhalter chipped the ball over the defense and in to Alec Gannon, who flicked it to Bachtold, who placed it into the back of the net. Sisters did miss some great opportunities, and the Lions’ goalkeeper made some spec- tacular saves. One save was in photo by Jerry Baldock Tristan Kaczmarek fights for the ball against Cottage Grove. the first half off a header from a corner kick that was on its way to the back of the net, and another was a finger-tip save off a set piece, where Tristan Kaczmarek blazed a ball from 40 yards out that was destined for the back of the net. Jensen said, “We played well for just coming off a three-day weekend, and hav- ing lots of players in recov- ery mode from injuries and illnesses. It was great to see us use our center mid- fielders (Sean Willitts, Jadon Bachtold, and Colton Mannhalter) better and really go to our strengths. We had lots of opportunities to score and did a better job pressur- ing the opponent and limit- ing opportunities to play long balls.” The Outlaws were to play at home against Sutherlin on Thursday, October 1, but due to the shooting at Umpqua Community College, the game was canceled and rescheduled for Wednesday, October 7 in Sisters. Sisters will also play at home against Sweet Home on Thursday, October 8.
