Sisters High School May 2015 Student of the Month
bangley Vogt is honored to be named Stu-
dent of the Month — but she’s quick to give
credit to others.
“I don’t think I’d be in this position with-
out my parents, my coaches and the staff,”
she says.
The individual attention students receive,
along with many unique opportunities, have
made her experience in Sisters Schools
outstanding.
“One of my favorite experiences here was
my IEE expedition to the mountain,” she
said, noting that it’s a rare experience for a
student to learn in an outdoor “classroom” on
Middle Sister.
She’s also building a guitar and a ukulele.
bangley has been Key Club secretary, co-
captain of the math team and co-captain of
the lacrosse squad and has served as an ath-
letic ambassador. She was named Miss Con-
geniality during the Mr. SHS Pageant.
“I have really developed a passion for
helping others,” she says. “It’s just a really
great intrinsic reward.”
She plans to attend the University of
Portland in electrical engineering and com-
puter science with an eye on a possible ca-
reer in consumer electronics design and
development.
“Langley is one of the most tenacious and
committed students I have ever taught. She is a
person to watch in the future. I can’t wait to see
what she does!”
— Tony Cosby
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lang-
ley through 6 years of Mandarin study, a trip
to China the summer of 2012, and now working
with her to build a ukulele. What an amazing,
inspirational young woman! Langley excels at
everything she does, because she truly gives
110% for everything, all the time. She never
wastes a single minute. Her attention to detail in
building her ukulele and guitar have produced
instruments that rival in quality the best instru-
ments made by accomplished master luthiers. It
has been a special honor for me to watch Lang-
ley reconnect with her Chinese roots through
Chinese language study and through her travel
to China. Way to go, Langley!”
— David Perkins
“Part of the SHS Mission Statement is that
we ‘Set and achieve high standards.’ That’s
Langley Vogt! However well she’s doing, Lang-
ley always aspires to bring it up one notch. What
a wonderful Student of the Month — proud to
know you, Langley! Congratulations!”
— Rob Corrigan
“Congratulations, Langley! I am so glad
that Langley is being recognized as Stu-
dent of the Month! I have had the privi-
lege of coaching Langley on the lacrosse
fi eld for 3 years, working with her on ASG
and having her in my classroom. Langley
is one of those quiet leaders, not someone
who makes a lot of noise or creates a lot
of fanfare but someone who leads by ex-
ample and by her actions. She is dedicat-
ed to whatever she commits to and is sup-
portive to everyone she comes in contact
with. Langley is a scholar/athlete who
can be held up as an example of what we
should all strive toward.”
— Michele Hammer
“Langley is one of the most driven
students I have worked with. She is will-
ing to do whatever it takes to be the very best
she can be. I am excited to see what she does
with her future.”
— Daniel O’Neill
“Langley is one-of-a-kind. She is not only a
pleasure to have in a class, but is just as won-
derful on a team, on a committee, or simply in
a community. She won’t let anyone get the best
of her, but gives the best of herself to everyone.
This young lady is not afraid of any journey,
for she believes that it is in the journey that she
will become strong. Langley is an excellent role
model for many reasons. Thank you for the way
you live, Langley.”
— Samra Spear
“Langley has been such a pleasure to have in
class this year. She was in my AP biology class
and was one of my top students. She was tena-
cious in learning the concepts and understand-
ing fully how things were connected. Langley
was also just an awesome human being who has
a huge heart and compassion for others. Wish
her the very best! Congratulations, Langley!”
— Glen Herron
