8 Wednesday, April 29, 2015 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Boys lacrosse posts big win Students learn to identify birds By rongi yost Correspondent The Outlaws posted a 14-2 victory over Roseburg at home on Saturday, April 25. Roseburg played hard, but Sisters scored steadily throughout the entire game to record the win. Sisters scored three goals in the first quarter, and at the half held a 6-1 lead. The Outlaws racked up eight additional goals in the second half and finished with a con- vincing win. Lane Gladden led the team with four goals, and Tyler Head and Mark Fish each had three. Chance Halley scored two goals and Chris Burdick added one. Josh Andrade also knocked in a goal, his first of the season. Max Kahnt, foreign exchange student from Germany, did an outstand- ing job in the box for the Outlaws. Kahnt stopped at least 10 shots and only allowed two goals. Sisters’ defense was tough throughout the con- test and kept strong pres- sure on Roseburg. Casey Lane, Devin Slaughter, Gary Jacques, David Keeton and Lane Gladden, who swings from midfield to defense, all worked very hard, and it showed on the field. Coach Andrew Gorayeb told The Nugget that the Outlaws have spent a lot of time conditioning over the past two weeks, and the hard work has paid off. “Every time we either called a timeout or had the standard breaks that occur between quarters and at half- time, none of the boys were huffing and puffing,” said Gorayeb. “They weren’t tired. They were strong and alert.” The JV squad also posted a win over Roseburg with a final score of 5-3, with Luke No job too big or too small New Construction Remodels Additions Decks Maintenance & Repairs By Ceili Cornelius Correspondent photo by Jerry baldock lane gladden moves up field against roseburg. Hull scoring Sisters’ last goal in the final three seconds of the game. Gorayeb noted several freshman players and Hull. “Kudos to Sam Mitchell who came out and played defense well, and Ethan Kennedy, who brought an amazing intensity to the game and never let up for a min- ute,” said Gorayeb. “Ethan Morgan worked hard to score goals and ‘do the dodge’, and Samson Magnus worked hard and scored two goals. Luke Hull got two goals as well. They all never quit. They’re awesome.” Gorayeb told The Nugget that over the next two weeks the Outlaws will continue to condition hard. Their goal is to be the strongest team on the field and win every game. The Outlaws will travel to Burns on Wednesday, April 29, for a game against Natzisaga, followed by a home game against Redmond on Thursday, which is sched- uled for 6 p.m. CCB#171646 students pulled invasive weeds in sensitive areas. Rheuben www.facebook.com/yourcareamerica 541-556-4299 On Wednesday, April 22, Rima Givot and her Biology B class headed out to Indian Ford and Camp Polk mead- ows to examine some birds. Mentors from Deschutes Land Trust and members of the community came out to help groups of students iden- tify different species of birds. “The biology students are going to apply learning about evolution and adapta- tions through actually study- ing birds in a real authentic research project,” said Givot. “So to help them learn about birds they need to be able to recognize them and use bin- oculars. This provided the students an opportunity to go out into a natural area where there are a lot of birds and work with mentors for an extended period of time so they can gain skills and apply them in the classroom.” The students also pulled invasive weeds as part of a service project, “and in so doing see the relevance of how different species are inter-related and the need for each other to be sustained, as well as how invasive species can impact the environment,” Givot explained. 3818 SW 21st Pl., Ste. 100 Redmond yourcaremedical.com WALK-IN • URGENT CARE• OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE Join us for a Cinco de Mayo fi esta at FivePine Lodge!
